They’re more, probably. But my question was poorly worded.
Mako soothes Ryuko’s soul on an almost sublime level. Any romantic context for their date at the end of the show is undermined by Satsuki’s presence, as well as the theme of feminine fashion. And Mako’s availability to Gamagoori’s awkward hints seems to hint in turn that she is into guys. But hey—that doesn’t mean anything. She could still be into girls, and maybe she and Ryuko will have another date later on, one uninterrupted by big sister.
Speaking of big sister, Senketsu’s missing eye causes Ryuko’s scarf to be in constant need of straightening.
